Scientific Workshop
Topic of the Workshop
Cardiovascular and neurological disorders are among the leading causes of death and morbidity in the world, affecting millions of people worldwide. Göttingen is pioneering the concept of cross-organ translational research between the heart and brain. In this context, the UMG will have a dedicated building joining researchers from both areas, in order to expedite advances and treatments. This is a concept we wish to promote through the proposed workshop. Therefore, the title of the workshop is “Molecular underpinnings of age-associated heart and brain disorders”.

Nacht des Wissen (Nigjt of Knowledge)
On January 26 at the Neurosciences Research Building (BIN/DZNE) we celebrated the 4th Night of Science in Göttingen. For the first time since the building´s openings in 2016, the doors were open to the public for a personal encounter between scientists and citizens.
From early afternoon till midnight we had the pleasure to welcome dozens of families, students and curious individuals to offer them a glimpse of science. We highlighted the milestones of Parkinson´s disease research, from its initial description in 1817 till today and focused on communicating the concept of disease models and their importance. People had the opportunity to find out why do we use rats, mice, flies and yeast for studying Parkinson´s disease. How these simple organisms are related with a human disease and observe the means we use to grow, treat and study them.
Synuclein Meeting 2019
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the next Synuclein Meeting. The meeting is entitled “Synuclein Meeting 2019: Where we are and where we need to go” and follows the 12-year tradition of biennial meetings in the synuclein field.
- Synuclein Meeting
The workshop will be held in September 1-4, 2019 at the Axis Ofir Hotel Esposende, Portugal
Protein Misfolding Meeting
Life expectancy has increased and current world leading causes of death are agerelated diseases. Diverse of such disorders, including several neurodegenerative diseases and cancer, have been related to protein misfolding and aggregation. Recent findings strongly support this hypothesis and have increased our understanding of the molecular mechanism of protein conformational disorders. Although many questions remain unanswered, the data suggest that correction of protein misfolding is a potential therapeutic strategy for protein aggregation diseases. The workshop aims at bringing together renowned researchers working on misfolding protein and its relation to different fields: biology, cancer and neurodegeneration. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive forum through which quality research can be disseminated to a wide audience.
- Protein Missffolding Meeting
The workshop will be held in May 20-21, 2019 at the Laboratório de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento Tecnológico – LADETEC located at the campus of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
